APC Will Capture Abia Peacefully, Even as Governor Otti Resorts to Threats Amid Dwindling Popularity
The Abia APC Renaissance Group notes with deep concern the Governor’s habitual use of his so-called media chats to display how intoxicated with power he has become. Instead of addressing the real issues that matter to Abians, Dr. Alex Otti once again turned the platform into a spectacle of arrogance and blame-shifting.
It is most unfortunate that the Governor wasted another opportunity to inform Abians of his concrete plans to clear the accumulated arrears of salaries, gratuities, and pensions owed to civil servants and senior citizens, an issue that has become the hallmark of his administration’s failure. Abia remains the only state in Nigeria still neglecting these obligations while Otti diverts public attention to trivialities.
Governor Otti has continued to embolden his media aides to launch attacks against well-meaning citizens and opposition figures who demand good governance. His decision to dedicate over one hour of a three-hour media chat to maligning the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly is disgraceful. The Deputy Speaker’s only “sin” was asking for evidence of tangible development despite the government’s claim of over ₦1 trillion received within just 30 months.
The Governor’s boast about an “organic crowd” at Ohanku Road is laughable. Abians know the political behavior pattern of residents of Ngwa Road and Ohanku especially their voting tendencies. Such crowd scenes have never translated into genuine electoral support, even worst was the last local government elections clearly demonstrated, with widespread reports of irregularities, manipulation, and intimidation that mocked the principles of democracy, under Governor Alex Otti’s watch.
We are not unaware of how the 2023 elections were manipulated in Arochukwu, Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Aba North, and Aba South to manufacture a questionable victory for Labour Party candidates. However, 2027 will be different. Abians are now more enlightened and will no longer be deceived by empty propaganda and false performance claims.
Governor Otti should be preparing for the coming elections rather than threatening violence. Pensioners who once voted for him will ask hard questions about why their entitlements remain unpaid. Civil servants who supported him will now reflect on how poorly they have been treated especially after learning that Abia receives over ₦38 billion monthly in federal allocations.
Abians will demand to know where the N72b meant for repairs of public schools were diverted and how N36b was spent in Reserch and Development including the diversion of farm seedlings and fertiliser worth over N4b meant for Abia farmers .
Our party leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has demonstrated an accurate understanding of the maladministration in Abia. His decision to decline Governor Otti’s overtures while warmly welcoming leaders from Delta,Enugu and Bayelsa speaks volumes, liabilities are not welcome in the APC.
A Governor who consistently lies about the state’s total revenue cannot be trusted. The inconsistencies in the figures released by his own government confirm deliberate attempts to divert Abia’s funds for personal interests. The imposition of Signature Bank as a mandatory financial channel for state transactions is another disturbing sign of cronyism that must be resisted.
As the Governor begins to sound desperate and jittery, issuing veiled threats nearly two years before the next election. we wish to assure Abians that the APC will reclaim Abia State peacefully, democratically, and decisively. No amount of intimidation or propaganda can stop the people’s will. The deceit, arrogance, and fraudulent manipulations of Governor Otti’s administration have reached their limits, and the people of Abia are ready for genuine leadership and progress.
