COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE ASSOCIATION OF FORMER ELECTED COUNCILLORS OF ABIA STATE, UMUAHIA NORTH CHAPTER, FOLLOWING ITS FAMILIARISATION MEETING WITH RT. HON. OBI AGUOCHA.

The Association of Former Elected Councillors of Abia State, Umuahia North Chapter, comprising former councillors who served between 1999 and 2022, on Monday, August 31, 2026, held a familiarisation meeting with the Member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, at the Umuahia North Local Government Area.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the former elected councillors to engage with the federal lawmaker on issues of mutual interest and matters affecting their welfare.

Speaking during the meeting, the Association expressed appreciation to the Abia State Government under the leadership of the Executive Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for his commitment and promise to settle the outstanding entitlements owed to former elected councillors covering the period between 1999 and 2022.

However, the Association appealed to Governor Otti to urgently intervene in the implementation of the payment arrangement, noting that while the first tranche of the outstanding entitlements has been received by some members, a significant number of the members are yet to benefit.

They further noted that the second and third tranches of the payment are still outstanding and appealed to the Governor to use his good offices to ensure that the remaining beneficiaries are captured and the outstanding payments are released as promised by his Excellency.

The former councillors also conveyed their appreciation to Governor Alex chioma Otti for the steps already taken towards addressing the longstanding issue, stressing that their appeal is borne out of the desire to see the process successfully concluded for all her members.

In a strong demonstration of their confidence in the administration, the Association declared its readiness to stand firmly with Governor Alex Otti and give him their full support for his re-election bid in 2027.

The Association equally used the occasion to formally adopt Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South House of Representatives election, pledging their support and commitment to his continued representation of the Federal Constituency.

The former councillors described Hon. Obi Aguocha as a dependable representative and expressed confidence in his capacity to continue to champion issues of development, welfare and effective representation for the people of the constituency.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the Association to work collectively towards the consolidation of the achievements of the present administration in Abia State and the re-election of Governor Alex Otti in 2027, alongside the return of Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha to the National Assembly.
