Abia IGR: We Have Hit N6B In First Quarter of 2023 – ABIRS Boss

The Executive Chairman, Board of internal revenue, Abia State Mr. Chijioke Okoronka has revealed that the internally generated revenue of the state has so far hit N6Billion in the first quarter of 2023.

Mr Okoronka made this known during a chat with Newsmen in Umuahia yesterday.

According to the Abia IRS boss, the state’s IGR “witnessed a meteoric rise from 2021 after we harmonized all revenue windows in the state and it has continued on that path till date, and is expected to continue improving all things being equal.”(See Graph):

He further revealed that the increment witnessed within this period “was a result of the private sector driven approach like E-Ticketing, Pay Small Small and other ICT based approaches incorporated to drive Assessment, Payment, Confirmation and receipting in a very seamless manner.”

He also said that the private sector driven approaches like the E-Ticketing helped check double taxation and the activities of fake agents.

Concerning compliance quotient of Abia tax payers the Abia IRS Boss stated, he stated that “Abians are voluntarily complying with their taxes because they are seeing their money at work, coupled with the fact that tax payment has been simplified, as people can now pay their taxes from the comfort of their homes and offices, all thanks to technology and ease of doing business introduced by our private sector partners.”

He further stated that with a more tenacious publicity, civilized and aggressive enforcement, Abia IGR will definitely hit the projected target of N40 billion in 2025.
