The Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Center (NPF – NCCC) has undertaken massive sensitisation campaign on how citizens can stay safe using WhatsApp, browsing through their computers, sending and receiving electronic mails/messages, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and indeed the gamut online space.

Sadiq Abubakar, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) has led the Director of NPF – NCCC; Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Henry Uche; other officers of the Nigeria Poiice and security agencies on a walk to sensitise the citizens on cyber security.

The Director of NPF – NCCC; CP Ifeanyi Henry Uche has thus recommended that to stay safe, every online user must do the following:

  1. Be mindful of what you post online as the Internet never forgets
  2. Be cautious in releasing personal information as that increases your vulnerability.
  3. Always lookout for suspicious links
  4. Harden the target – use strong and unique passwords and most importantly activate multi factor authentication.
  5. Be sure of what you post or repost to avoid being caught in the web of cyberbullying, cyberstalking and sundry cyber offences
  6. Always know that the Nigerian Police Cyber Crime Centre works in synergy with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Conmission (ICPC), Immigration; United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and indeed several security agencies to ensure cyber hygiene.

Whilst there is growing concerns about cyber crimes, the Police Cyber Crime Centre is miles ahead of the cyber criminals, as measures have been put in place to stave off new tricks. CP UCHE reiterates that “with cutting-edge technology and skilled professionals, NPF-NCCC stands as a beacon of cybersecurity, ensuring a resilient and secure online environment for all citizens”
