The Abia State Chapter of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria(OMPAN), has commiserated with the Nigerian Army over the killing of five of its personnel by yet-to-be identified gunmen in Aba, the commercial centre of the state.

OMPAN in a statement endorsed by its Chairman, Chief Promise U. Okoro described the death of the soldiers as painful and one that should be condemned by every lover of peace, especially as it came at a time when the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja is making effort to strengthen civil-military relationship.

“This killing is very painful, we are saddened in OMPAN that the Nigerian Army that recently held a social media seminar in Aba in a bid to foster civil-military relations will be victim of an unprovoked attack barely one month after the seminar that has started yielding positive impact on the people.”

While calling for a thorough investigation into the killing, the OMPAN chairman, commended the governor of the state, Dr. Alex Otti, the leadership of the Nigerian Army 82 Division, Enugu and 14 Brigade Command Headquarters, Ohafia to ensuring that the situation didn’t escalate.

Chief Okoro who condoled the wives and relatives of the bereaved soldiers, also called for caution among security agencies as they go after those behind the dastardly act to avoid innocent citizens suffering from the actions of the bad eggs.

He further assured the union’s continued support and partnership with the Nigerian army in its resolve to maintain Law and Order and to make Abia a safer state for business and economic development and growth.
