The Mayor of Umuahia And The Road He Should Travel
First i want to use this medium to congratulate the Mayor of Umuahia, High Chief Victor Ikeji on his inauguration as the Mayor of Umuahia.
When Dr. Alex Otti decided to appoint seasoned, accomplished and well to do Abians to man our local governments, especially the urban and semi urban councils, many did not understand his strategy.
Before now, the office was at best a compensatory platform used to empower party loyalists, political loyalists, family members, and the appointee acts in accordance with the dictates of “Onyeisi”, and did little or nothing as funds meant for the third tier of government is diverted and shared via “Joint Projects” account – another conduit through which LG funds reach private purses!
Today we have these reverred Abians manning, Aba, Umuahia, Obingwa, Ohafia and other LGA’s and Abians including Dr. Alex Otti are highly expectant and itching for results.
In Umuahia North LGA, which is where some of us reside and do business, there is so much to be done and the Mayor Must hit the ground running.
It Will sound like a tale by moonlight if i tell my readers that the local government headquaters including the adjoining streets – Okwulehie, Crowther, Item, Ohafia and the shopping plaza by Aba park have been without light For over 4 months and still counting.
This has severely affected business activities in and around the Area.
Except the Mayor wants to continue where his predecessors stopped by using “I Pass my neighbour” to power his office, i think his first line charge should be to restore power to his office and its environs.
The Mayor should aso look into illuminating the streets of Umuahia through the installation of solar street ligjts, that way, commercial activities within the metropolis Will increase and crime rate Will also decrease.
The only way and reason citizens can trust the Mayor, his plans and visions is to first of all restore power to himself and his immediate environment before promising or even attempting to do any other thing as a man cannot give what he does not have.
This treatize to the Mayor of Umuahia Will definitely become a recurrent decimal as we strive For a better society and Join him to provide lasting, practical and critical infrastructure For our people.
Congratulations dear Mayor and may God imbue you with the wisdom required to deliver on your assignment.
