Abia Assembly Debacle: Do Not Allow Little Things to Sway You – Rt Hon. Mandela Obasi Advises Suspended Colleagues
The member representing Ohafia North state constituency, Rt. Hon. Mandela Obasi, has expressed his gratitude to his colleagues over his nomination as the Deputy Speaker with the prefix Rt Honorable added to his name, just few weeks before the expiration of the 7th House of Assembly in Abia state.
Speaking to newsmen after Wednesday’s plenary, Rt. Hon. Obasi said that his emergence was barely and act of God and that “God’s time is the best”.
According to him, he was supposed to be the Deputy Speaker from on set but had to listen to the directive of the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and remained calm.
Abia Pulse News earlier reported on Tuesday that there was an impeachment with the signatures of 18 out of the 27 members of Abia State House of Assembly which the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji described as a “charade”.
Members believed to be part of the plot were however suspended by the Speaker as Hon. Obasi was announced as the new Deputy Speaker to replace impeached Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, former Deputy speaker of the house.
While responding to questions field by newsmen, Hon. Obasi said contrary to rumoured commotion in the House of Assembly complex, he said the environment is largely peaceful as planery was held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In his words: “The activities of the house will continue, what happened was that some members of the house made the wrong move to impeach the Speaker which I describe as Kangaroo movement”. I was nominated as the Deputy Speaker and I’m happy that Rt. Hon. has been added to my name”.
He advised suspended members not to allow little things move them.
While stating his plans for people of his constituency, Hon. Obasi promised to continue to deliver the deviden of democracy to the people of his constituency..
