Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers Endorses Hon Obi Aguocha For Second Term, Confers Him With The Title of “Oke Nwanne Ka Nwanne”

The Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers has honoured and endorsed the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, with the prestigious title “Oke Nwanne Ka Nwanne,” meaning “a brother that is more than a brother.” The traditional rulers described Aguocha as a dependable son of Ohuhu, a compassionate leader and a representative who has consistently demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare, development and aspirations of his constituents and the wider Igbo community.

Presenting the honour, the traditional rulers said Aguocha had distinguished himself through his commitment to his people, particularly in the areas of education, community development and the pursuit of justice for those who feel marginalised. They noted that his actions had demonstrated that leadership goes beyond occupying political office, stressing that his disposition towards service, sacrifice and the defence of his people had earned him the confidence and respect of traditional institutions.
In his Remarks, Aguocha said the title “Oke Nwanne Ka Nwanne” carries a deeper meaning, which he linked to the Igbo philosophy “Onyeaghala Nwanne Ya,” meaning “No one should abandon his brother.” He said the principle demands that people remain their brother’s keeper, especially when that brother is facing difficult circumstances. Aguocha said this philosophy has continued to guide his public service and personal convictions.

The lawmaker particularly cited his continued advocacy on the matter concerning Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, saying he would never relent in pursuing what he believes is justice and a fair resolution of the issue. According to him, receiving the title was not merely an honour but also a reminder of the responsibility to stand with one’s people when it matters most. He pledged to continue representing the interests of his constituents and advocating issues that affect the wellbeing and future of the Igbo people.

Aguocha also used the occasion to declare that Ohuhu will support and re-elect Governor Alex Chioma Otti in 2027, expressing confidence in the Governor’s leadership and developmental agenda in Abia State. He urged the people to sustain their support for initiatives aimed at transforming the state, while assuring them that the bond between him and the traditional institution would continue to be strengthened through service, partnership and mutual respect.
