Aguocha: Federal Medical Centre, Mouau Upgrade Will Drive Jobs, Economic Growth in Ikwuano/Umuahia

The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has said the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ikwuano and the proposed conversion of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, into a conventional university will create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the constituency.

Aguocha made this known while speaking during a radio programme on Rapid FM, Umuahia, where he reviewed his legislative efforts and ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting the development of Ikwuano/Umuahia and Abia State.
Speaking on the proposed Federal Medical Centre, the lawmaker disclosed that the bill seeking its establishment had been transmitted by the Clerk of the National Assembly to the Presidency for presidential assent.
He expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would assent to the bill, describing the proposed medical centre as an important institutional development for the constituency.

According to Aguocha, the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre would not only strengthen healthcare delivery but also create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activities within Ikwuano and the surrounding communities.
He further linked the proposed medical centre to the planned conversion of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, into a conventional university, saying the development could have wider implications for the growth of the area.

Aguocha said the expansion of federal institutions in Ikwuano/Umuahia could create the conditions for the existing Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia to be transformed into a tertiary teaching hospital.

He explained that such institutional development would attract professionals, create direct and indirect employment and increase economic activities in the area.
“These things are institutional empowerment,” Aguocha said, stressing that development should focus not only on immediate benefits but also on establishing structures capable of creating opportunities for future generations.

The lawmaker maintained that investments in healthcare and education could have a multiplier effect on the local economy, benefiting businesses, workers, students and residents across the constituency.

He said his legislative efforts were therefore focused on attracting projects and institutions that would provide lasting value to the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia.
Aguocha expressed optimism that the proposed developments would contribute to the long-term transformation of the constituency, particularly through increased employment, improved healthcare services, expanded educational opportunities and greater economic activity.
